{cinnamon & spice} at the movies

*twilight movie date*
Last Friday I met Stephanie at the movies to go see Breaking Dawn.  She was kind enough to take some photos of the warm spice colors I was wearing.....

*poncho* *hanging out before the movie*
I had just bought the jeans and poncho, and was excited to get a chance to wear them out. Ryan calls the ensemble my *Luke Skywalker on Tatooine* outfit : )  Stephanie showed up wearing the cutest knee high socks with her heels, jeans, a tee shirt and comfy sweater.  We hung out and walked around while waiting till it was time to head into the theater.....

*keeping warm* *comfy cozy*
In the end, Steph didn't make it into the theater due to the stomach flu, but we agreed to still see it together.....so now I have another movie date with this pretty lady. Needless to say I went into the movie worried about her, and left it relieved she arrived home OK, my head swimming with happy thoughts from what I had just seen on the big screen.  (photos of me by Stephanie, photoshop actions by me)  <3 Carrie

HARRY POTTER AT MIDNIGHT....

So I ended up going to midnight showing of Harry Potter last week with a sweet friend. It was totally last minute, due to babysitting issues and we had a blast!

Here's a couple things I want to remember from that night:
  •  Standing in line, and later walking through the theater I thought all the Hogwarts looking ties that people wore were really fun
  • Popcorn and cherry coke for dinner was yummy (I actually forgot to eat a real dinner on accident)
  • A late night filled with lots of people and excitment in the air was a thrill
  • I tried to take photos while I was standing in line outside, but they all came out blurry because I couldn't focus on what I was doing
  • I'd never shown up to a midnight movie this late before...I think I got there at like 10:15pm (it felt a little hectic till I settled in)
  • Chatting with April before the movie started was nice.....she hadn't seen Part 1, so I tried to remember all the good stuff to help get her caught up.....I think talking about it added to the anticipation
  • Being able to see the midnight showing of the LAST Harry Potter movie is something I think I will never forget
  • And last but not least, the theater gave us super cool Harry Potter looking 3D glasses which I LOVE!
It was a good night <3 Carrie

INTRIGUING

( source, source, source, source, source, source )

Today I thought it would be fun to share the most captivating movies I've seen so far this summer.  You know, the kind that stay with you for a while, and know you'll enjoy watching again and again.....I find it comforting to relax in bed on a warm summer evening and enjoy a good movie.  So from top to bottom, here they are:
  • The Illusionist (2010) - new to DVD, this movie is so charming there is no need for dialog.....plus it's beautifully illustrated
  • Midnight in Paris (2011) - still in some theaters, Woody Allen's most recent movie is intoxicating.....the characters, the dialog.....I didn't want it to end
  • The King's Speech (2010) - I'm a bit late watching this gem seeing as how almost everyone else I know has seen it by now, but I love it just the same.....beautiful to look at, it is only enhanced by how interesting the story and characters are.....the humanity in it is uplifting : )

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH

*lunch*

Today I thought it would be fun to share what a typical weekday lunch looks like for me:
  • Lots of fresh fruit (raspberries are my favorite this summer)
  • Seasoned nuts
  • A sausage beef stick
  • Cheese
That's pretty much it other than something refreshing to drink like ice tea or a cherry coke zero.  And today it just so happens that I have this movie on while working on my projects/Pumpkin.....Bringing Up Baby.....

I like to have movies on while I work.  The background noise, and looking up here and there to see something pretty on the TV, seems to work really well for me.....

This movie in particular is very sweet, beautiful to look at, and makes me laugh out loud quite a bit.  Katharine Hepburn is adorable and very quirky.  Plus, having a real leopard as one of the main characters is really fun.

Well, I'm off to get stuff done.  Have a lovely week!!!  <3 Carrie

HANNA

I suppose you've guessed by now that my movie date this week was to go see Hanna.

And boy did I love it!  It starts out in the forest of Northern Finland before taking you on her adventure.....

It was a beautiful movie that kicked ass,  with interesting characters and an intriguing story along with a cool soundtrack by the Chemical Brothers.....and I think this is my favorite song.....

Originally when I watched the trailer below and saw that Joe Wright who directed the newest version of Pride and Prejudice (one of my all time favorite movies) also directed this movie, I knew I had to see it.  And I have to say that I was not disappointed.  I think it's my new favorite movie : )  Anyone else like it too?

I actually saw it on Wednesday, so I originally was going to have it be my heart~flutter for this week.  And honestly I would love to add more than the movie stub to my 2011 album.  I wish there was a postcard or something cool I could buy.  Let me know if you guys come across anything good : )  Have a fun weekend!  <3 Carrie

Wednesday ~ Heart Flutter

*Gnomeo & Juliet*

( Digital Layout:  feathers from Kitschy Digitals, photo negatives from House of 3. )

My heart flutter for today is probably the cutest movie I've seen in a while.  I treated myself to Gnomeo & Juliet in 3D last week, and I LOVED it!  I had no idea you could make a love story so sweet between two animated characters.  It was adorable.  Plus I really enjoyed the art.  The texture of the gnomes was perfect, and the mixture of dimensional and flat backgrounds in some parts was very retro cool.....So, I decided to create another digital layout to print out and add to my 2011 album.  And honestly, now I wish that they made little Gnomeo and Juliet gnomes to adorn my craft table.  I think they would make that space even more cheerful : )

Happy Wednesday!

Gloria and I have some fun inspirational photos up over at Bubblegum Life if you haven't seen them yet.....And our new photo prompt is now up, if are looking for some Valentine's Day love  : )

My weekend is swamped with a long list of stuff I absolutely cannot put off any longer.  So after this post I am off to get more stuff done.  But sometime this weekend I hope to fit in this at the movie theater.....

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Wednesday ~ Heart Flutter { Top 5 }

This week I am in the mood for going to the movie theater, so I though it would be fun to share the top 5 movies I am exited to see in December and in 2011.  So, (from left to right and top to bottom), here is my list.....
The original Tron was a breakthrough movie, so everyone I know is excited about Tron Legacy (Ryan even had a Tron viewing party with some friends last weekend).  Somewhere, well, all I needed to know was that Sofia Coppola wrote and directed it, and I'm hooked.  Gnomeo & Juliet.....cute little garden gnomes and a forbidden love affair.....perfect.  I love adventure movies that take place in Europe, and Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are both beautiful, so The Tourist  sounds really fun.  And last but not least, all I had to see was the long red cape against the soft white snow in the Red Riding Hood trailer to know that the visuals in this movie are going to be a big inspiration.

I think Ryan and I are going to see Tron this weekend, and I hope to find time to see the other two from 2010 on my list before they leave the theater.....There are some movie passes just sitting in my purse and I can hear these movies calling my name : )  Of course there are quite a few other movies that are going to be amazing, like I'll probably see the new Coen Brothers with Ryan too, but in general I prefer to watch dramas at home.  What movies are you excited for these days???

Happy Wednesday!

Wednesday ~ Heart Flutter { Top 5 }

My Top 5 Movies for the Month of November 2010.  In no particular order.....

1. The New World (2005)

This movie is the sweet (and violent) love story of Pocahontas.  It is shot beautifully.  Pocahontas is breathtaking.....and this movie is one of the few dramas I enjoy watching.

2. The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

I am a big fan of Wes Anderson.  He is probably one of my favorite directors of all time.  This movie is about brothers trying to reconnect and find themselves at the same time.  I like the togetherness of it for Thanksgiving month.

And I wish I owned this.....

3. The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

This movie is a favorite to watch during this season because Fall in Manhattan is amazing.  There is also a scene where they go flying and the landscape is covered with the most vibrant shades of orange and red Fall leaves.  And the piano on the soundtrack (which I own) reminds me of leaves falling to the ground.....it's really pretty.

4. Eat Pray Love (2010)

It comes out onto DVD the end of this month, and to me it just feels right to watch a movie about trying to find balance in your life.  Especially during this month, were we are reminded of how grateful we are for everything we have.

5. All the Harry Potter movies (2001-present)

This is the month when I re-watch them all.  I started year one the other day, and now I am on year two.  The way they portray Halloween and Christmas is so imaginative!  I can't wait to start working on some Christmas gifts while watching this next one.....it soooo puts me in the mood!!!

And since I missed last Wednesday, here are my Top 5 Movies for October 2010.....
1. Pet Shop of Horrors (TV Series 1999)

I find this Japanimation very interesting and unique.  There are four different short stories about a pet shop that sells people a pet that represents something they are missing in their life.  However, the horrific part is that in owning one of these special pets someone always dies because of wanting something they shouldn't or giving in to something that's wrong.  Not your typical horror movie, but very cool (and hard to find).

(2007)

I love this movie partially because I am a night person, but also because of all the pretty snow, scary vampires, the handsome actor, but I think mostly because I enjoy the last act of the movie / ending so much.  If a movie has a great ending, I'm hooked.

3. Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)

This has been my favorite classic horror movie for over 20 years.  And I don't just like the first one either.  Revenge of the Creature is pretty cool too.

4. The Omen (2006)

This remake is cinamatically stunning in my opinion.  From an artistic standpoint the colors, lines, architecture, and lighting are all perfect.  Plus, it's a scary and creepy story.  The suspense builds and builds until the ending.....I love that.

 5. Pulse (2001)

This was between Pulse and One Missed Call.  Both great Japanese horror movies, but I ended up choosing Pulse because it's more psychologically creepy (and it was made before The Grudge and other horror movies that copied a piece of it's style).  It's about a friend that dies and who's image shows up on computer screens causing an epidemic that makes everyone feel a sense of dread they can't explain.  And I think the ending is very powerful.

Does it show that I watch a lot of movies?!?!  I prefer them to TV any day.  And I have all our DVDs organized by my own version of genres.....their organized more by mood, so it's easier for me to find a movie to watch depending on what I'm in the mood for.  It's nice.

What are some of your favorite movies for October and November?

Wednesday ~ Heart Flutter

*a walk through a pine tree forest*

Heart Flutter #1 ~ A wonderful afternoon with Ryan.  I am still daydreaming about this beautiful place.  We visited the San Diego Safari Park because we wanted to do something "Fallish", so a walk through their botanical gardens was perfect.  And it was a great day for it too.  It was a little misty and overcast, so I wore a scarf, hat and mittens, Ryan a sweater, and once we arrived there he grabbed a warm mocha too.  It was divine.  All the orange on the ground, the cool air in our lungs making our cheeks pink.  The sound of the babbling brook that followed us most of the way.  Creaky wooden bridges and old benches.  Lush fern gardens, an occasional lily pond, AND a sweet baby elephant!  Take a look.....

Heart Flutter #2 ~ Dark Reese's.  I am in love with this dark chocolate and peanut butter heaven!!!

Heart Flutter #3 ~ This movie.....

You have to watch the trailer.....

The Secret of Kells  is dark and mysterious, light filled with hope and strength, and absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and rich to watch.  Honestly I had no idea it even existed until it recently became available for instant viewing on Netflix.  And the timing was perfect, since this San Diego weather has been reminding me of our trip to Ireland a couple years ago.  We actually had plans while there to see The Book of Kells, but couldn't because it's room was under renovation.....but back to the point, I think this movie is pretty special, and that's about it for today and my current obsessions.  See ya tomorrow!!!

Enjoy your evening!
