{two girls and a kit} may birthday cards

Hello Everybody! Today I'm back with my second video sharing another project using my Two Girls and a Kit supplies. Most likely I'll share one more video for May.....and I'm thinking maybe it will be a minibook!! Today's process video is two birthday cards I recently made for my mom and sister's birthdays. I used the  free vertical 4x6 journaling card for May along with a non-traditonal way to use baker's twine for one of the cards (shown above). For the other I was so inspired by all the pretty Glitz Design product in my kit, I just did lots of layering, created a homemade tag using washi, and added a little machine sewing. Here's the video:

The confetti was made by using a confetti punch and scrapbook paper covered with the Glitz washi. It was perfect for bringing out just a hint of blue. Since baker's twine / embroidery thread was on the recipe card, I knew I wanted to use it in this project, but instead of embroidering some of the designs on the journaling card, I decided to add extra orange and texture by layering it behind the heart. I'd never used baker's twine like this before, and the only thing to note is that since it is so much thicker than tread I didn't need much of it at all.

This second card is really all about the layering.  I created two tags, one out of glitter paper, and the other from washi covered paper which I embellished with an eyelet.  Since these cards were being handed out instead of mailed, I used as much dimension as I wanted....which is always a plus in my book ; )

The only other thing that's different about this card is that I used the design side of the patterned paper base on the inside, and white back side for the cover. I thought the white border would compliment the card well, and the color inside with the text would be a fun little bonus. XO

{two girls and a kit} techniques | watercolor layout

{two girls and a kit} scrapbook techniques |
Hello Everybody! Welcome to my first project using the Two Girls and a Kit May goodies!! Today I'm sharing an example of the watercolor technique taken from our May Recipe Card. I used watercolor and confetti on the background of my layout, as well as created a handmade title using one of the images from May's Moodboard as inspiration. Here's a look at the process video:

A couple things to note: In my process video I share some ideas for working with wet scrapbook paper. I also share a quick and easy way to add lots of confetti to your background. Everything in creating this layout was taken from my custom May Scrapbook Kit.  My plan is to share another video next week, and I think I'll be making a handful of birthday cards....we'll see.  Don't forget to keep an eye out for Amanda's first Two Girls and a Kit video as well ; )

{two girls and a kit} may recipe and scrapbook kit

First off, I'm so excited to finally share our Two Girls and a Kit May Recipe Card! The specifics above are just Amanda and my recommended recipe.....please feel free to alter the amounts of each to suit your way of scrapbooking best.  For example, I really like to layer lots of paper, so having 20 patterned papers makes sense to me so I have enough to scrapbook a few projects throughout the month.  If you don't have as much available to you, or you tend to not use much of a variety per project, you may want to choose less.  The basic idea is to either help rein you in from picking out too much or too little product in putting together your very own custom kits.  Just make sure you have close to enough to last you throughout the month.

Here's a video of me going over the recipe before I share the scrapbook kit I made from it:

Also, I've been so busy preparing for my sister's baby shower and other home stuff that I forgot to take photos of my kit.  I promise I'll share individual pics of it later this week, so for now here's a video sharing all the pieces and detials of my custom scrapbook kit:

You'll notice I used quite a bit of the Glitz Design 77 and Carpe Diem Collections in my kit.  I am really looking forward to using this beautiful product and love how perfectly the colors go with this month's moodboard!  A BIG thank you to Glitz Design for sending us these treasures!!

Thank you so much for joining us for the launch of our brand new scrapbook club called Two Girls and a Kit!  Amanda and I are so excited for this new project, we're starting off by sharing the moodboard we put together for the month of May.  We will be using it as inspiration along with a recipe card (which we'll share later today) in creating our own custom scrapbook kits by gathering supplies we already have at home.  Throughout the month we'll share the projects we made using our kits on each of our blogs.

The whole idea behind the concept of Two Girls and a Kit was to start a scrapbooking club where people could find videos, printables, photos, techniques and lots of ideas to help simplify the art of scrapbooking.  (If you haven't seen it yet, there's a video all about Two Girls and a Kit also!)

Lately, I've really struggled with wanting to make time for paper crafting.  I'm really enjoying lots of time with family, working outside in my yard, and exploring around where I live in Seattle as much as possible.  The idea of narrowing down the choices I have, and therefore taking less time to scrapbook sounded perfect.  It made me WANT to fit it in.  So, Amanda and I have been working together to share this concept with those of you who would like to join along (or creatives who can never have enough crafty inspiration)!

Below is a quick video I put together sharing a little about this month's moodboard and different ideas for using it as inspiration : )

Also, feel free to download the moodboard to print at home if you'd like to play along.

In a few hours I'll be revealing some free journaling cards, and then a little later my scrapbook kit (Amanda will too).....so stay tuned.  If you don't already, you can receive alerts when I have new posts up by following me on Bloglovin.  See ya soon!!  XO

P.S. If you will find this moodboard on Pinterest under my name HERE.
